A lot of decent runners coming back after a break. Turf is yielding and most of not ridden on ground this slow before so no idea on how they could perform. Assume dirt will ride slower too, so stamina may come more to the fore. Again so many unknowns so playing half stakes today.

Walk of Stars is next best but this race was not the intial plan. All roads to WC and is going to skip Saudi this year. Kabirkhan is next best on numbers. A G1 winner and stays a bit further than this, so given conditions heading here.

Turf racing is back at Meydan! One of those days where favourites could clean up, but that would be boring. 

2.05 - Super tricky start. Emperor's Star is an obvious favourite here. but couple things don't like about it and at the price enough to leave. Silver Sword is the best on stats here over distance and current mark. Good horse but not so consistent. Cosmic Desert is one of two distance winners and the only C&D winner and may be forced to make the pace. Green Triangle is totally underestimated here. Likes quicker ground. Would have walloped Lambourn if not for RO and came from last to first few races back so not worried about stall 14. Can make excuses last two races.

Not a great card today, but we have 3 weeks in a row now and the 19th will be decent.

1.30 - Union Security is probably going to be too good for these, but Na Eem did nothing for the form and with a wide draw maybe worth considering something else. Shayesh should not be shorter than Spacetown on formlines (including trials). Al Khawanej interesting on paper with new sire 1/1 at Meydan with 2years olds. Uncle Timo also interesting, but will play half stakes on bottom two in market.

2.40 - El Barreeq my pick is a NR. Welcome Dream and Sir Harmony are going to set the pace and hopefully ruin both their chances and set it up for Barq Al Emarat. Needed the first run last year and hopefully is now spot on for today.

3.15 - Super competitive this. Gray Boss is tracked and well handicapped and likely progressive. Norato won really well last time. Military Artist bounced back to form last time out and if can resume progress and acheive marks from couple years back can win this. Fresu onboard this time and worth a pop at reversing with Norato. If Al Jadaf was drawn better may have picked this instead.

5.00 - Today could be Book Review's day. No pace drawn inside so can get to the front. Most of the horses are hold up horses. The two dangers to this is first the jockey. Can he perfect the burn the field without burning the horse. Let's find out. Second Silent Age. Drawn 1 and has gone fwd before, just not last couple runs. I'm sure jockey will be instructed to go fwd looking the race.

2.05 Meydan - The two with racecourse experience didn't really produce much so willing to take on. Tjareed ran a decent trial and worth an ew play. He's not a stat play as Olascoaga not has a 2yr old winner here, but he's said he has nice ones this year.

2.40 Meydan - Be interested to see how the Appelby horses get on, but was keen on Na Eam last week. I think Union Security is going to turn out well in big races this season so hoping it's a good enough formline for this race and the trip was too short for Na Eam

3.15 Meydan - Shepperton Lodge won with a lot in hand last time comfortably and don't see 12lbs stopping it. On best form Remorse would go close to winning and Book Review would go close from an uncontested low draw. Hard to pick Remorse though as looks to have regressed and Book Review got annihilated by Shepperton last time out.

3.50 Meydan - Meshtri won this race last year, but had a prep run then and won't necessarily get his way upfront. Castlewarden was quite well touted last year. Backed both times to no avail. Qareeb looks a good place prospect. Oasis Bay was tempting at 18/1 but missed the prices and again I think only playing for places. If Desert Wisdom recaptures form 40/1 could look massive. Happy-ish to sit this one out.

4.25 Meydan - Rammayy not that well handicapped on paper. Deep Hoper and Khanjar are the likliest winners, but you're chancing fitness. You're not doing that with Smart System. Decent run lto from a wide draw. Back in trip is perfect.

Bahrain 4.40 - Not sure where the pace will come from or how the race is going to unfold esp given only 2 of the jocks have won at the track. Royal Champion looks the one to beat but is fave. I think Military Order on this ground and distance is the one most likely to challenge. Did looks unlucky in the Wolferton. Nothing concrete so play a rfc instead.

1.30 Meydan - Dark Saffron main target in Saudi this year. Miles ahead of the rest, but it's a 5 runner race and is 2/7. No bet.

2.05 Meydan - Hidden Secret form is the best on show, but it's early doors so a watch only for me. No bet.

2.40 Meydan - When I saw the declarations was hoping Tad O'Shea picked Na Eam, but didn't which is a tell. Mullen rides 4% at Meydan. Backed La Yetal lto so is tempting, but his sire yet to have a winning, so again, no bet.

3.15 Meydan - Always love seeing Book Review in a handicap. If drawn low and no pace inside back him blind on dirt over this sort of distance. I'm just not sure about a two drawn inside that might prevent it today though. A fan of Poster Paint last year, but on turf. Wide draw and on dirt not sure can back it with confidence, but will be winning this year no doubt. I ruled everything else out other than Arabian Tale whose the only other C&D winner, but with Slattery riding it's hard to be confident.

3.50 Meydan - With Costa in such good form Arabic Legend is tempting, but I need to see what horse will turn up in Meydan first. There's going to be a lot of pace in this race and so hoping this sets it up for a closer. The two I like the most are Made in Dubai and Laasudood. Made in Dubai had a run already this season although not a good one and Laasudood ran well fresh last season. Many could win this on current marks but hard to know fitness levels. We need serious pace to set this up for these picks.

Melbourne Cup - I've split 1pt across 5 horses for fun on betfair exchange. Soft ground changed my plan to bet a 100/1 shot (Athabascan)

Valiant King 11s in decent form and best numbers for me. 

Arapaho 46s G1 winner over this distance and will love the soft conditions with trainer in good form.

Meeydan 24s decent 2m ped and decent jockey and because Meydan starts again this week :)

Flatten The Curve 27s G2 winner over the distance won a group race on soft, looks on a low mark

River of Stars 17s twice the price of Half Yours, which slightly off given the pull in weights and best race since leaving Beckett
