Bets 31/07/2012- Glorious Goodwood Day 1

Two massive fopars yesterday! Firstly calling out that Weld hacks up @ Galway every year and not backing two of his army, who won at 3/1 and 9/4. Secondly, making a pretty bold statement “he’ll having to be f*cking good to beat Line Drummer 8/15” referring to one of those Weld horse inevitably  beating the short priced O’Brien Horse, on which I lumped £90. Ah well. Hindsight. Right Glorious Goodwood. Bring it on. I’m not listening to any draw bias nonsense around the bend as the long straight negates that but on the flat think the lower drawn tend to do better. Will be focusing in on Hannon, Johnston and Gosden over the Festival.

Tom ‘Pricewise’ Segal from the Racingpost hast tipped 3 this morning:

Goodwood 2.00 – Retrieve 12/1 (was on my shortlist, but an open race)
Goodwood 2.35 – Giorlamo 11/2 (also on my shortlist list ahead of Michealango based on prices)
Galway 5.35 – Seanie 20/1

My thoughts later….

10.30am update..On the opening day last year the winners were 20/1, 7/1, 5/2, 6/1, 6/1, 16/1, 14,1. Hmm. I don’t remember doing well at Goodwood, but that’s not going to stop me trying...

Goodwood 2.00 – Wow. Tough opener. I’ve followed Cai Shen 8/1 for quite a while now but not had much luck. IF the ground is good Hughes could steer him to win from the front. The form of Royal Hunt Cup is working out well at this level with Dimension, Don’t Call Me and Field of Dream all winning since! Segal has tipped Retrieve 12/1 and obvious to see why. Problem I have now is I can’t pick between 8 other horses. Down to 6. 4 now (Start Right, King Torus, Landaman, Oceanway). Argh. Maybe I should leave? Can you leave out the Johnston horses? Oh dear. Think King Torus 20/1 in first time head gear gets the vote. Tentative.

Goodwood 2.35 – Girolamo 11/2 is the class horse, but Michelangelo has the course form. You can’t really write off Noble Mission either. Another tough one.

Goodwood 3.10 – Libranno 9/2. Decent C&D form as does Chachamaidee, but she fudges the start too often to be taken at that price. May put Chac in a double with Michelangelo to hedge a tad.

Goodwood 3.45 – No surprise for me to go Hototo 5/1 with that form working out so well. Will include Morawij in treble with Chac and Mic.

Goodwood 4.15 – Maybe best to focus on the Hannon kids. Millers Wharf 6/1 and Raging Bear 33/1.

Goodwood 4.50 – Jacob Cats 10/3 won me a decent prize last week and no reason to oppose again. I think Uppercut 20/1 is massively overpriced when check out the form lines with Trade Commissioner and Vainglory.

Goodwood 5.25 – Two horses. Same trainer. Dandy Nicholls. Hamoody 14/1 who has won this before with dire previous form. Fitz Flyer 14/1 who ran a blinder on Saturday after a poor start, down in class, same mark. D-Nic has won this 3 times before. Bet365, SkyBet, BlueSq, 888.com all paying 5 places.

Galway 5.00 – Weld = Volueuse de Coeurs 3/1

Galway 5.35 – Weld = Rock Critic 9/2

Galway 6.10 – Weld = Big Break Evs

Galway 6.40 – Weld = Moonbi Creek 3/1

Galway 7.10 – Weld = Storm Lightening 6/4

Ayr 3.20 – Tajneed 5/4.
