Bets 30/11/2012

Always great to land an 8/1 shot, especially when it was much shorter in the morning. Winning against the market. Boom. Shame all the others FLOPPED!

I want to bet in all the Newbury races today, but I have an odd sense of discipline in me today, so will just await the outcomes.

Only bet of day:

Newbury 12.30 – Nothing has competed in decent races yet, except for Saphir Du Rheu 10/11

Total Staked £30.00, Total Returned £0.00
£30.00 Saphir Du Rheu 10/11 - LOSE £0.00

Hennessy this weekend! Cannot wait! Will def be heading there again this year. Going to lower stakes and go for a few at Newbury today. Will up stakes back again on Saturday.

Newbury 12.25 – Aaim To Prosper 13/8. Best flat horse and Nicholls excels in this race and with horses like this.

Newbury 12.55 – Elenika 9/2. The form ahead of Rajdhani Express looks the strongest on offer and gets a handy allowance.

Newbury 1.30 – African Gold 6/1. Looks a few lengths ahead of handicapper on handicap debut. The form working out in both last two races.

Newbury 2.05 – Again on form ahead of Poungach puts Houblon Des Obeaux 6/4 at the top of pile

Total Staked £100.00, Total Returned £120.00

Bets 24/11/2012

3/6 yesterday. Somewhat obvious picks, but I’ll take it. Hendo has his army out. Few big accs will go in today. Nicholls is really bullish about all his horses at the moment, but does concede that if Long Run shows up nothing will beat him

Tom Pricewise Segal from the Racingpost has picked out:
Haydock 2.30 - Sivola De Sivola 13/2, Barafundle 10/1
Haydock 3.05 - Weird Al 6/1

Ascot 1.40 – A race not really to bet on as it revolves around the fitness of Bunglasha Lady. By far the best horse in the field, but with 1.5years off needs to be a solid training performance. At a long price there’s one other horse with decent credibility in this field. A Little Swifter 25/1. Likes soft ground and looking at last two listed handicap races, this form is solid, especially the Kells Belle line.

Ascot 2.10 – There’s certain horses I just can’t and won’t take on. Finian’s Rainbow 11/10 is one of them

Ascot 2.45 – Oscar Whisky 4/5 – was gutted when fell in this race last year. Hopefully can make amends.

Haydock 12.20 – Balder Success 4/7 is not worth backing at the odds, but looks ahead of this field. McCain reckons Hollow Tree wants further. BS has solid Ascot form too.

Haydock 12.55 – Couple I like in this. Lamb or Cod’s 11/2 form is solid after the other two Hobbs horses in the Silver Trophy went on to post decent efforts. Bar De Ligne’s 14/1 effort behind Trustan Times is solid and TT is also running later today!

Haydock 2.30 – Segal has already tipped two, which is annoying because as above I like Trustan Times 20/1. Handicapper has been a tad harsh, but if you watch the way he powered home last time out you’ll see why 20/1 is big. For me the obvious danger is Katkeau 13/2 who hacked up in similar level races in France. Pipe has won this a couple time before, so watch out!

Haydock 3.05 – I’m not opposing Long Run 13/8. Emotive punting, yes, but he’s still better than these lot on paper. Big Henderson Treble please

Haydock 3.40 – Master Overseer 5/1. Pipe reckons this is tailor-made for him

Ascot 2.05 – Close House 4/6

Car crash yesterday but no major injuries. Al Ferof. How did we all miss him. A few bets today, mostly short price so will chuck a few accumulators in. Segal has gone for Glam Gerry in the big one today. No Sprintre or Darlan. Booo...

Fontwell 12.25 – Oscargo 4/7. By far the best hurdler and Benheir not really taken off in Chase world. One for an Acc.

Fontwell 12.55 – Royale Knight 8/15. Miles ahead of the rest, but probably one for an Acc.

Cheltenham 1.45 – Clock House 9/2 purely on hype

Cheltenham 2.50 – Gutted about Darlan, but was the right call. No idea now. Maybe Star of Aragon 50/1? Ha. No idea, good luck.

Cheltenham 3.25 – Village Vic 9/4. Followed this one over a couple of NHF races, like it.

Punchestown 1.05 – Oscars Well 8/11

Punchestown 1.40 – Back in Focus 4/6

Punchestown 2.15 – Hurricane Fly 2/5

Bets 17/11/2012

I think I'm slowly hitting things off again with the track. It's been a torrid month. Dynaste and Dodging Bullets came good yesterday and although I didn't pick Uncle Junior or B King yesterday I thought they'd be in the top three. Really should have listened to everyone and avoided Kid Cassidy, but at the same time you have to go with your own instinct.

Tom Pricewise Segal has picked out a few today:

Cheltenham 1.55 - Harry The Viking 7/1
Lingfield 2.50 - Hezmah 7/1
Cheltenham 3.05 - Lovcen 13/2, Abnaki
Cheltenham 2.35 - Micheal Flips 25/1 (Antepost)

My thoughts before 10am....

8.30am update. Only want to play with Cheltenham today...

Cheltenham 12.45  – Far West 7/4. Nicholls dominates this race and the form of Far West has been franked. Difficult to judge how good Vasco Du Ronceray actually is

Cheltenham 1.20 – I was very impressed with Sire Collonges 7/4 last time out. Don’t think Sea of Thunder will reverse despite the 3lb difference and McCoy. Will be close. The Pipe horse is well regarded mind and arguably the best hurdler? Sticking with Nicholls on this one.

Cheltenham 1.55 – The Galaxy Rock form line is solid now, but this is competitive. On paper Segal’s choice can’t beat TeaforThree. Mon Mome 40/1 always gets be interested but tough ask. Ashkazar on paper looks solid with that form against Bradley, but I’m sticking with Galaxy Rock 7/1. I was livid when he hit 2nd last in previous race as he didn’t come off the bridle for a long time and was going very well. He won this last year very easily as well

Cheltenham 2.35 – I’ve backed Micheal Flips AP (as advised by Segal). I’ve back Walkon 11/1 Antepost too. Hunt Ball’s trainer’s comments brings a new meaning to being bullish. I’ve never seen comments like it and if you look at what he achieved against Burton Port 15/2 might be a steal. However, Grands Crus 5/2 is the one I want to be on today. Love him and yes was a let down last year but is well handicapped. I might take Hunt Ball w/o Grands Crus 9/2

Cheltenham 3.05 – Lovcen. Segal’s choice, but is mine too. Last year’s performances in Albert Barlett and John Smiths is better than anything here and can win this at top weight. Hopefully class will prevail!

Total Staked £450.00, Total Returned £177.00

£15.00 e/w Hunt Ball 9/2 - LOSE £0.00
£15.00 e/w Abnaki 12/1 - LOSE £0.00

Bets 16/11/2012

Cheltenham 1.15 – I was huge Fingal Bay fan last year and was gutted to see him get injured. The Tiger O’Toole factor now means on paper I have to rubbish that form and instead go with Dynaste 7/4. The best hurdler in the field, trainer won this last year, has form here so against my heart I’ll go with Dynaste

Cheltenham 1.50 – Everyone seems keen to take on Kid Cassidy. Segal has gone for Astracad 6/1. A number of these could pop up on old from. Oh Crick and Free World included. However, I still think Kid Cassidy 4/1 has the potential to be much better. He made up 10 odd lengths in last race over short space. McCoy onboard, good chance.

Cheltenham 2.25 – Dodging Bullets 6/5 looks a good 10 lengths better than the others. Tominator is interesting, but not seen enough to go there yet.

Cheltenham 3.00 – Balthazar King foiled my punt on Galaxy Rock earlier this year and this looks the best form on offer. However, I can’t decide between BK, Uncle Junior and Sizing Australia. Hmm. Tricast?

Cheltenham 3.35 – Pipe vs Henderson. At the weights Top Wood 5/1 looks well in so will head that way, although all the money is for Titan De Sarti. Hmm.

Can't believe I went against Flem. Can't believe Voler got beat. Can't believe I'm still punting knowing the beginning of the season was always going to be a 'mare.

I'm going to have some form of small acc across Kauto The Roc, Valdez, Rajdhani Express, Watergate, Pocket Aces, Petara Bay, Alpha One, Buck Mulligan.

The weekend is going to be boomting.

Bets 11/11/2012

Missing the racing yesterday was infuriating, but the intoxication was self-inflicted and thus no sympathy. A daft regular occurrence which I vow to thwart one day, but for now it’ll ruin a few weekends of punting a year but it wasn't the worst one to miss yesterday. I did find it odd that Segal punted on the flat yesterday and to his and his follower’s detriment more odd end of season results occured. However, the one that made me cringe was Art Scholar @ 20/1. Backed this one last time out over the same C&D and after a valiant 2nd there’s no way I would not have backed it again. Grrr. The three I did get on came in 2nd, 2nd and 2nd, which ordinarily is massively distressing but the each way accumulator lowered the hypertension.

Navan 1.45 – I’m a big Voler La Vedette 4/6 fan. Goes well fresh which is a bonus.

Navan 2.50 – I am going to be brave with this one. Flemstar has lost the last 2 times back from the break and so might be a good chance to oppose. Cracker should have no chance. Big Zeb has won this for the last 3 years, but his last 3 races were fairly disappointing and he could finally be too old for this game, although we know the old boys don’t always capitulate; Kauto. Realt Dubh looks a solid proposition but he is being lined up for the John Durkan and at the odds the one to be on for me has to be Foildubh. The clue is in the name of the horse. Foil Dubh. Ha. Hidden Cyclone was on my shortlist last year as one to keep an eye on and based on his form with Sir Des Champs, Foildubh 10/1 looks a big price at the weights.

Ffos Las 3.05 – Tenby Jewel 16/1 is weighted to reverse the placings with Wayward Glance and the flat stretch after the final flight is far shorter here than it was the day her got outpaced towards the end last time he face Wayward. Stow has been smashed in the betting, and if you look at the form you can see why. If I got hold of the initial 16/1 I would have taken it, but has a terrible record fresh so will stick with Tenby.

8.30am update... Tom Segal has gone So Young in the 1.45 and Realt Dubh in the 2.50 @ Navan.

Ah. Just woke up. Hangover. Missed Pricewise prices, missed the chance to do any hardcore research. Maybe it's a blessing. Only a few bets today.

Oddly Segal has stayed on the flats. Considering he prefers the jumps slightly odd, but I follow the leader:

Doncaster 2.35 - Clayton 9/1
Wincanton 3.25 - The Package 8/1
Doncaster 3.45 - Docofthebay 20/1, Louis The Pious 10/1

I'll see if I can look at a few races, but I'm hanging. Urgh....

12.15pm update...Looks like I had a couple of punts last night. I don't remember, but they seem solid enough even if they larger revolve around Nicholls!

Wincanton 2.15 - Poungach
Wincanton 2.50 - Prospect Wells
Wincanton 3.25 - Michel Le Bon

So, I've finally updated the P&L. Ouch. At one point in the bog I lost £1.2k in just a few days! Anyway, I just hope I learn to sack of punting during the season transition. Stupidly I had the most singles bets on any day I've ever had on the one weekend I really shouldn't have bet a penny. Train wreck.

Exeter 2.20 – Landscape. Nicholls runs Exeter and between him and Hobbsy they've won this race 9/10 years as has the race favourite.

Exeter 2.50 – Cue Card 11/10 always disappoints me when I back him, but has an awesome chance here. The start of the season is tough for many reasons but one of them is we just don’t know how much these horses have improved over the summer.

Exeter 3.20 – Massive shock if Hinterland 4/9 loses this one

Melbourne Cup  - I backed Mount Athos @ 16/1 and I backed him again today @ 11/2. He has seen off our best younger stayers with ease this year and that form was franked at Longchamp. The big boys are back from last year – Dunaden (9lbs heavier), Red Cadeaux (4lb heavier) and Amercain (same weight), which means technically it’s Amercains 6/1 especially within champion jockyey onboard? I’m just really fixed on Mount Athos. Even if you use Brown Panther and Danedream as markers, Mount Athos beats Dunaden by 10 odd lengths. Decent draw, decent jockey, fingers crossed. I need this one!

Segal has back Weld’s Galileo’s Choice 15/1 and if you fancy an outsider then although the draw makes it tough, Zabeelionaire 40/1 will love the step up and gets a decent pull against Dunaden this time.

Total Staked £270.00, Total Returned £138.00

Bets 03/11/2012

My high standing of Tom Segal has shot me right in the foot. In both. I ignored Pricewise as it was not Segal, but stand up Nicholas Godfrey. He nailed a 9/1, 7/1, 16/1 and placed a 20/1 at the Breeders Cup and he offers his thoughts again today. I felt good nailing Bless The Wings over jumps yesterday. I’m now sacking off UK flat racing until next year.

Santa Anita 6.50 – George Vancouver 8/1
Santa Anita 9.38 – Fortify 20/1
Santa Anita 10.18 – Shareta 5/1
Santa Anita 10.58 – Amazombie 5/1
Santa Anita 11.40 – Moonlight Cloud 5/1
Santa Anita 12.35 – Ron The Greek 8/1

Tom Pricewise Segal has tipped the following:

Down Royal 2.25 – Kauto Stone 15/2
Ascot 2.35 – Ted Spread 18/1, War Singer 8/1
Ascot 3.10 – Baile Anrai 20/1

Ascot 1.25 – Hadrian’s Approach 2/1. Looked a decent horse and Hendo has won this the last 4 times he has run a horse in it and is also near 40% strike rate at the moment.

Ascot 2.35 – Not convinced about Ile De Re’s jumping so Raya Star 8/1 to take this off top weight. Tough, tough ask, but with the form King is in, will definitely go close. Last year I used Zarkandar as a solid yard stick to good effect and so will keep with this one for now. Nicholls won this last year and Ted Spread 10/1 gets a decent 7lb claim. Paddy Power are doing 4 places on this one.

Ascot 3.10 – Alfie Spinner 8/1 goes well fresh, goes well here and gets a claim to bring him into the handicap. What’s not to like? The long shot is Tullamore Dew 20/1. Has gone well fresh once before and is an old boy now, but definitely has a chance at the weights and does love it here at Ascot.

Ascot 3.45 – Finding it hard to get away from the top 2 heavy weights in this. Micheal Flips 7/1 and Pepite Rose 8/1. The latter has won at this level and the former has For Non Stop in the formbook.

Wetherby 2.15 – Une Artiste 7/4

Wetherby 2.50 – Smad Place 7/4

Wetherby 3.25 – All the money has been for Silvinaco Conti all week and I want to believe it but I can’t. So Planet of Sound 5/1 who was my big bet for the Hennessey last year get the vote. Goes well fresh and trainer hinted aimed for this

Santa Anita 11.40 – Excelebration 11/8

Bets 02/11/2012

Had a few days off from the horrendous battering I was taking. Was something like a 5% strike rate! Ekk. I've still not had a chance to update the P&L, not because there’s little incentive to do so, and there really isn't  but just haven’t had the time. I will tonight whilst watching some Breeders action! I had a torrid Breeders last year so everything will be half bets. There are 2 Listed races which I’ll have a gander at too.

Wetherby 2.00 – Bless The Wings 13/2. King is flying at the moment and he was one of my Cheltenham Festival flops, but I would have backed him for a reason. The Tiger O'Toole form took a hit for me when Merrion Square flopped.

Newmarket 1.40 – Pearl Sea 5/1. Proven over C&D and form looks solid if you ignore York.

Breeders thoughts later this afternoon…and beware Pricewise is not Tom Segal today.

6.45pm update.. “Lasix does not allow a horse to perform beyond its peak natural ability. It alleviates, but does not eliminate, a condition that hampers peak performance”. According to this it’s then down to the trainer to get performance sorted. We’ll see. Might be worth backing a combo of those used to it and those who have never had it.

8.06 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint – Don’t know the effect of not tanking US horses up with Lasix will be but on paper nothing should trouble Merit Man 5/6, but if you want value then surely Hazardous 9/1 is it looking at the C&D times pretty much the same as Merit Man

8.48 Breeders’ Cup Marathon – Fame and Glory ran well in last race and first time blinkers could do the trick. I’m not the biggest of fans but this horse has got proven class and almost a step down with the potential conditions to suit. I really don’t know where to turn with this but my longshot is Juniper Pass 20/1. C&D winner and Dettori onboard can’t be the worst thing with his experience around here. Will have to bounce back though.

9.28 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf – Sky Lantern 11/4 is one of my favourite 2yr olds and the biggest danger has to be Spring Venture 6/1. This horse has cruised to win some decent races.

10.08 Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies – Executiveprivledgde 7/4 looks hot property. Clearly I have no basis on form but blitzing an G1 over C&D by 6 lengths works for me

10.48 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf – The Fugue 11/4. Back to fast 10f is going to be perfect. Come on girl.

11.30 Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic – How do you call this? Wow! Questing 9/2 to take advantage on 3yr old allowance?

Few accumulators with Excelebration tomorrow...
