Bets 28/02/2013

Meydan 2.45 – Kassiano 6/4 beats Elderly Paradise on the Jamr form and also beats Bay Willow on track times. I like this horse especially as has landed me victory last two races.]

Meydan 3.20 – Should not get involved in big handicap sprints, but at the weights from the last G3 race Dubawi Sound 7/1 has to be worth a pop with Spencer who has an insane sense for big flat races.

Meydan 3.55 – Elleval 9/4. This horse grew wings down the home straight last time out and looks smart

Meydan 4.30 – Kinglet has a real dodgy draw again and although his style is to come from the back not sure I’d risk it. Producer 9/2 probably has the best form on offer based on last C&D but at a bigger price Mufarrh 16/1 should not be dismissed. Last time ran in a handicap won by over 4 lengths and has decent non-handicap form

Meydan 5.05 – This is basically a rerun of the UAE 1000 Guineas. I’ve watched that race a few times and Lovely Pass looks solid, but the Godolphin jockeys have been switched around and tactics will win it. Feel another G’Dog 1-2-3

Taunton 2.10 – Helium 9/1 has no excuses now in a Class 5 Sellers Race. Technically 18lb lower than when ran in a listed race 22 lengths behind Petit Robin

Taunton 4.10 – Thunderstorm 4/5 looks to have at least another half stone in hand.

Taunton Treble – Couple horses tentative about but don’t want to miss out so Come On Annie in last, Jupiter Rex and Thunderstorm 14/1 acc.

Southwell 2.20 – Kabbaa 4/6 produced that quickest time over C&D out of these without really trying. Hopefully will improve to win on handicap debut

Southwell 3.20 – Mullen/Appelby are 5/5 here and have Miako who is a see of blue on oddschecker. However this looks like it will be a vigorous pace throughout and La Sylphe 11/4 is proven over C&D and in a race of this nature.

Southwell 5.20 – Our Ivor Evs looks like he can rack up another win

Southwell Treble is 12/1

Bangor 3.20 – Corrin Wood 9/4 has solid claims on form. Down in class, McCain and Maggy also team up to a 29% strike rate here and they have won this the last two years.

Bangor 4.50 – Is Violin Davis really a 133 rated horse? I don’t know. Difficult to tell. Even if was 120 rated Tara Rose 11/4 would be lbs ahead of the handicapper based on last run and even on penultimate run. Issue is the fact that TR was thumped off 120 in a handicap and the BHA has not changed the rating. Still, worth the punt.

Wincanton 2.30 – Boom Boom. Admiral Boom 6/1 down in class and couple pounds ran well in a decent race last time over C&D. Slighlty more speculative and the market has brought this in from 16/1 into 8/1 is Boomtown Kat 8/1. 27 lengths behind Ely Brown, but between them was Holywell, Hada Men, Hollow Tree amongst others and has very good C&D form

No time to trawl today but fancy a quick gander at Lingfield (Shouldn't really :))

Lingfield 3.40 – Random race to tackle, but Purley Queen 8/1 had a poor start over C&D last time after and is now effectively 9lb lower with claimer. Titan Diamond 12/1 is creeping back into form and goes well here. Small r f/c.

Lingfield 4.10 – I know I shouldn’t do this, but Storm was 11/2 this morning. An unraced horse and is now 7/4. Someone must know something? Or a bookie trap?

Bets 25/02/2013

Dear, oh dear. Right refocus session needed! Lessons learned:

1) Don't freaking lump on short price favourites. Maximum bet has to be double bet only. (e.g. Vago Col, Mike De Hag)

2) Don't leverage a day's worth of punting on one horse (e.g. Lac For, Vago Col) - especially when it's hype and not proven. Utterly daft

3) Don't base form on 3 or 4 runners races. They are generally tactical and don't account to much.

4) Change my mind on form lines I thought were solid. Re-programme brain.

5) Don't punt on trainers in bad form. Obvious.

6) Don't put short price favs in accs! (e.g. Puffin Billy). No need

7) If you have a hunch, don't weeny out. No point doing half bets (e.g. Rocky Creek, Far West).

To summarise, don't heavily back or put short odds on horses in accs, keep up to date with proven true form lines and trainers, and finally don't let one horse to make or break your day.

To contradict all of this, I've put a £30 acc on the 1st four favs at Plumpton today, pretty blindly. Will incorporate these lessons learned into Chelts. I  have to. All  I'm really doing is reverting back a few months to how I used to punt. Discipline appears to have deserted me. Come back.

I am having a ‘mare with the horses at the mo. No, not have a foal but having a foul time with punting. I genuinely thought yesterday would bring home a couple of winners, but in the end nothing did! There are some serious formline plays today and will be crucial fro Chelts. Although as I feared it’s likely to be better than good at Chelts with the weather drying up and will be reversals in form all over the field.

Tom Pricewise Segal from the Racingpost has tipped up:

Newcastle 2.55 – Chac Du Chadran 5/1 – I agree
Kempton 3.50 – Same Difference 9/1, Quinz 16/1

BetVictor and Bet365 have gone non-runner no-bet for all Chelts races. I know what I will be doing tomorrow! I’m limiting my punting today to a dozen bets, but do fancy a Nicholls acc too.

Kempton 2.05 – Irish Saint 6/4 just

Kempton 2.40 – Molotof 5/2 just

Kempton 3.15 – I’ve backed Lac Fontana for the Triumph 20/1 so will back him today @ 7/4 as reminds bit a little bit of Zarkandar. I don’t know why and most would say, really? But, lots of money for him and might be a double bet.

Kempton 3.50 – I have to be brave here and stick my neck out with Wyck Hill 7/2 based on Katenko form. Rolling Aces would have been next.

Kempton 4.25 – I will give Katkeau 9/4 another chance. Sort your freaking jumping out!

Newcastle 2.55 – Chac Du Chadran 5/1. If Master Overseer wins I can’t tell you how angry I’ll be! Backed him twice, he pulled up, purposely avoided him twice, won twice.

Newcastle 3.30 – Corrin Wood back down in class and trip

Fairyhouse 2.35 – I called our Quito De La Roque 16/1 last time out as he had to bounce back at some point. Shame didn’t back it! I’m on Prince De Beauchene 6/4 for the National already and he won this last year so why not again

Lingfield 2.30 – Farmleigh House 2/1. Top OR, quickest times, more to come

Chelts - NRNB - Bet365 11pm Tonight

Tuck in, tuck in

Bets 22/02/2013

OK at Meydan yesterday. Couple winners, one place and couple unplaced.

Sandown 1.45 – Barenger 5/2 back down in trip should do the trick

Sandown 2.20 – I was all about Nozic until I saw all the money has been for Lord Singer 10/3. Use Falcon Island as a marker and Lord Singer is a step ahead. Moore is smashing them in, so must have a decent chance!

Sandown 4.00 – If Barenger obiliges in the first the Tanerko Emery form over C&D will be boosted and it could then be a Gud Day 33/1 who would have got close to winning that race baring a few mistakes and is now 3lb lower.

Sandown 4.30 – Barlow’s 3/1 form with Godsmejudge on good ground is defo the pick

Warwick 3.50 – Escortmen 22/1 has to be ahead of the handicapper after his run behind Molotof over C&D. He was out the handicap last time and is down another 2lb. Let’s not forget he was a 149 horse over hurdles and could well be getting to grips with chasing with tongue tie clearly working a treat

Bets 21/02/2013

Well the jumps were a waste of time and money yesterday. Back to Meydan to recoup some losses, I hope!

Meydan 3.15 – Difficult one as is a handicap and a lot of these have run in graded races. The only real formline I have is So Beautiful v. Light Heavy and is has to be So Beautiful 5/1 at the weights. Think the extra furlong will suit

Meydan 3.50 – If Silvo gets this right it has to be all about Con Artist 5/2. That form with Kassiano is solid.

Meydan 4.25 – I can see on paper that Igugu looks immense and even SBS says “appears to be a very good mare”, but I’m still willing to take him on with Sajjhaa 11/4 won very easily last time out here.

Meydan 5.00 – Stuck with between 3 of these. Sandagiyr, Santefisio, Maritimer. All the tips are for the Sand and can see why, Sante may have been unlucky last time but got put up 7lb so will take a chance with Martimer 7/1 and hope drop in trip works a treat.

Meydan 5.35 – Musir 2/1 has spanked Master of Hounds before and even have 3lb advantage this time, Do It All had one race where the jockey won it for him, but no way Soumillon will let him get away. Think Mushreq needs further and just don’t think the rest are good enough

Meydan 6.10 – To hard to call these sprints. Will leave be.

Aren’t I glad I just had one Acc bet at Navan yesterday rather than 4 losing singles!

Doncaster 2.20 -  Swnymor if I can find another short price to put in acc with it.

Doncaster 2.50 – Never too smart switching horses been chasing and hurdling but Corkage 7/1 is a decent C&D winner and on a decent enough mark back on good ground.

Doncaster 3.25 – New Years Eve 3/1 looked impressive in the big Bumper at Chelts last year as this is the first time he’ll be back on good ground and am hoping this is the key to the horse. There were some decent horses in that line up including The New One and Jezki!

Doncaster 3.55 – Harvey’s Hope 7/1 looks like he may well go in again despite step up in class and distance.

Ludlow 3.45 – Dreambrook Lady 4/1 may have found a decent opportunity here. Has decent historic form and that Kempton race is strong for this level

Kempton 7.30 – Free Spin 13/8. Was 3/1 last night. Because someone told me too. I wouldn’t ordinarily looking at O’Gorman and Elna Bright here, but let’s see what this goon knows.

Saturday was glorious but I was a total nark. I didn’t fully commit to Up and Go, Rocky Creek and Far West and only had £9.20 singles on rather than the usual £30 but did put a £30 treble on which paid 10/1 or so. Segal had a decent day with two winners and Cloudy Too and Jumps Road made it a very good day for me. 3 out of 4 placed at Meydan between 11/2 and 9/1 so was a good effort considering they were all in fields of 16. Unfortunately my 3 big fancies flopped and therefore so did my big accs, but still £400 odd to the good. 3 WEEKS TO GO!!! AHHH!!

Taunton 2.00 – Nicholls form, record at Taunton and record in this race all point to Kauto D’Aloes 11/2. He finished 10th in this last race in France, but ahead of him were several big race winners and 1st place was only 2.75 lengths ahead. It’s a race that’s working out very well.

Navan – I keep getting done over by Mullins and his short price crew, so just one bet. 9/1 quad on Thousand Stars, Tofino Bay, Rubi Light and Twinlight

I heart Meydan. 3 winners, 1 forecast, 2 places from 7 bets on Thursday and it's back tomorrow, albeit not overly exciting. Prices aren't up yet so will have to wait till tomorrow to tuck into them. I've had a punt on Ascot tonight because I am up and out early am tomorrow. Will update will Pricewise and rest of meets in the morning.

Ascot 1.30 – Using Many Clouds as a marker Up and Go should beat Aaim To Prosper. McCain won this last year and this crew are in good nick (Exc Peddlers!). Cooper Birch has form with At Fishers Cross although AFC cruised that. Sausalito Sunrise could easily improve. Argh. Okay staying away.

Ascot 2.05 – Rocky Creek looks a decent prospect and is clearly improving. Houblon arguably has stayed on a par last few races but has serious form in the book and with Harry Topper as a marker would be close to a dead heat. Real Milan got 13 lenghts closer to Brindinis Breeze than Rocky Creek did over hurdles and has done nothing wrong in first two chase starts. Tour Des Champs is not that bad either! Argh. Staying away from this too.

Ascot 2.40 – Vino Griego won at a big price last month and never saw that coming. 10lb higher in higher class. Can he do it again? Hmm, not convinced. I’m writing this on Friday eve so can’t tell what the ground will be like but there’s no rain forecast and I’m hoping moves towards good to soft. The reason is Tatenen 10/1. If it were too soft he may just struggle to finish off, but if not he has won a couple of decent handicaps here off similar weights and any rustiness should be oiled after Chelts.

Ascot 3.15 – Was desperately looking for a big price in this race and got as close as El Dancer 28/1, but he looks about half a stone too high now, but perhaps still e/w value. The one I have to be with is General Miller 13/2. Has been off for a while but you only have to glance at form to see he is best fresh, got to 5 lengths of Overturn in a handicap and is now 5lb lower and beat Menorah on level weights. All the Friday evening money is for The Bear Trap

Ascot 3.50 – Finian really doesn’t look comfortable with give in the ground. I can never call Cue Card or Captain Chris. OR says the latter, gut says Somersby who is at best at Ascot, but nagging worry about trip. It’s probably another to stay away from for me though!

Ascot 4.25 – Far West 4/5 has a huge 4yr old allowance and River Maigue would be a very very good horse if he was to overturn that. It’s a 4 horse race and so not really worth getting too heavily involved if at all. Maybe on the forecast.

Ascot has a lot of small trappy races today and if I was forced to pick on the ones I’ve not committed too I’d go Up and Go, Rocky Creek, Somersby, Far West, but I far prefer Tatenen and General Miller!

Haydock 2.20 – Probably not as easy as it initially looks as I think proven runners at Haydock are always ones to keep on side, so how then do you pick between Kentford Grey Lady and Trustan Times. On paper it really has to be the former using Reve De Sivola as a marker but I’m keen on betting on it, maybe the forecast for value

Haydock 2.55 – Monbeg won the Welsh National with ease. Anyone who saw that race couldn’t possibly think Teaforthree can beat him. MD was never asked a question until the last few furlongs. If you want to find one from that race surely Triggerman 14/1 has to be the one who is 15lb better of the MD this time round!

Haydock 4.05 – Cloudy Too 9/2 is down in class and in good form. Ohio Gold looks a tad flattered by form with Majala and Fago as they both won very easily against OG.

Haydock 4.40 – A chasing favourite of mine Hold On Julio 11/4 can exploit his low hurlding mark!

Wincanton 2.30 – I remember backing Coup Royale 20/1 couple of years ago and kept on smashing him and his price collapsed and he ran out and easy winner of a mark technically 6lb higher. Must be worth a punt again and looks like the price is collapsing again too.

Wincanton 4.15 – I half bet Jumps Road 10/1 a couple of weeks back and he just didn’t stay the trip and it turned out to be a decent race (I reckon). Chance back down in trip.

Gowran Park 3.10 – Zaidpour & Wincanton 3.35 – Zarkandar Double 6/4

7.25am update... Tom Pricewise Segal from the Racingpost has tipped up the following today:

Ascot 2.40 - Vino Griego 5/1

Lesson yesterday, don’t bet for fun and try and call forecasts in butters races. Have been waiting all week for Meydan! These are decent races and think the market has generally got it right today, which is annoying.

Meydan 2.45 – Tough. 4 could win this. Modun is likely to need his run and Jamr might just not be good enough with Kassiano and Royal Empire also lining up. I think they’ll end up in this order. Kass to beat Royal Empire.

Meydan 3.20  - Burano 5/1 has a pull in the weights with Masteroftherolls this time round to pip him. Rerouted I the biggest danger and I missed him last time but not fully convinced step up will suit.

Meydan 3.55 – Fortify has been running in top class races, but Soft Falling Rain Evs looks very good

Meydan 4.30 – Barbeque Eddie 11/2 keeps surprising me and it’s time to jump on the bandwagon. His C&D form is impeccable and has beaten most of these before.

Meydan 5.05 – Krypton Factor 5/2 is back and I love this horse.

Meydan 5.40 – 3 I can’t work out. Anatolian whose form was boosted last week, Shimraan who looks well handicapped and Silvaner who has form with Meandre and Danedream!!! I’ll hope the latter needs this run whch leaves Ana and Shim. Hmmm, just about on the favourite at 3/1

Freaking Puffin Billy. Freaking Vago. I need to learn to control the lumping. It can work, yes, but when it doesn't it hurts. Just keep consistent damnit!

Really nothing exciting today, but some thoughts either way:

Ayr 1.50 – Deepsand looks the easy winner here but 4/6 is short and I’ve been merked by these of late. Elmaatigra looks so butters on paper but has predominately only raced at Kelso, a track in my mind which is fairly specialised. This horse was given a 100 RPR on the flat in a race which worked out pretty well. 3rd place was beat by Ericht 0.75l over hurdles. Trainer has won with 3 out of last 7 runners so 66/1 w/o Deepsand is a totally wild punt but is chance of an e/w here, esp with 4 places as a lot of the horses in here look dead wood.

Ayr 2.55 – There’s some kind of big gamble going on with Pudsey House in from 10/1 to 5/1. Definitely something you couldn’t possibly work out from fact? This means the horse I like will have a bigger price/ Academy’s 3/1 form with Home Run surely stands out a mile? Clearly needs to settle much much better and surprised not to see some form of equip to help, but today might be the day.

Ayr 3.25 – Tap Night Evs was a huge flop last time out. No lumping just hoping.

If Vago Collonges rocked in yesterday I’d be looking at thousands, but instead I over leveraged all my accs with him and put a double bet on him and he flopped, albeit came second D’oh. None of my big shots came in but most of the favs came in and I had £30 on My Tent or Yours. I knew he was decent so my 20/1 antepost for Chelts looks good now, although there are still some solid horses in that line up.

Exeter 2.30 – Puffin Billy 4/7. I reckon I’ll put a big wedge on at sit back and watch the rest of the races today

Just got in from a uber good night and it's 4am. Uh oh. Yesterday was nearly a solid 16/1 e/w placed acc, but Pete The Pete let the team down, but still did very well! Leopardstown is going to sort a lot of form lines out and will be have to tread carefully but there are a couple who I have my eye on.

For now Tom Pricewise Segal from the Racing Post has tipped 4 horses up:

Newbury 1.50 - Rangitoto 8/1
Leopardstown 2.15 - Buthelezi 8/1
Newbury 2.25 - Menorah 8/1
Newbury 3.35 - Claret Cloak 14/1

I may well still be passed out by the time racing starts, but I'll try and look at cards before midday. Really try...

Midday update...I've lost the plot and looked at nearly every race. Whoops...

Warwick 12.55 – The form of Open Day’s 4/1 last race has worked out very very well.

Warwick 1.30 – Official OR say Kelles Belle 7/1 as does trainer/jockey combo at track (5 wins out of 6)

Warwick 2.05 – Same trainer/jockey combo as last and even Nicholls reckons Molotof 3/1 is the one to beat

Warwick 2.40 – On paper Majala is the one to beat but Fago 10/11 is the one to step up

Warwick 3.15 – I should not have looked at this race. Duke of Monmouth 7/1 has a massive chance on form as does Faultless Feelings 8/1. Annoyingly Be My Light 10/1 is ringing in my head as the stat bet. I can’t back all 3 can I? Argh

Uttoexter 2.50 – Slighty random race to choose, maybe I’m still hungover, but chance taken on Victoria Rose 16/1 who has solid C&D next to name, but also one massive C&D flop. Hopefully fitter now and low enough in weights.

Newbury 1.15 – I’m still a bit peeved that Chatterbox 8/11 beat My Tent or Yours and still blame McCoy for that, but hopefully he’ll start the bandwagon for Henderson today

Newbury 1.50 – Segal’s has tipped Rangitoto. Nicholls says has decent each way chance. This is a really tough race and so many formlines on show and the one that stands out the most is Sivola De Sivola 9/1 and the one that is definitely worth chancing is Spirit River 33/1 who has huge jumping issues but on his day is top notch.

Newbury 2.25 – I know why Segal has tipped Menorah, but even though I’ve not really given Silviniaco Conti 8/11 enough credit he is freaking good and despite Nicholls saying he will come on for the run he is rock solid

Newbury 3.00 – Clearly disappointing Simonsig isn’t running, but Hendo can still win the race with French Opera 5/2

Newbury 3.35 – I’ve already backed Cotton Mill and Punjabi Antepost as per Segal’s tips. My feelings about My Tent Or Yours 5/1 is clear. Very good horse and must go very close in this insane race! At a long price Caid Du Berlais 28/1

Newbury 4.10 – this is Nicholls race and he saddles a mighty impressive Unioniste 4/5. Slightly concerning Nicholls puts a punters warning out on this though stating it’s a very competitive race and he’ll come on for the race

Newbury 4.40 – Vago Collonges 11/4 has some seriously strong French form. I might go big with this one, but we’ll see if market keeps speaking for him.

Leopardstown 1.15 – Blood Cotil 5/2 has been hugely talked up and Ruby said in his Irish Examiner column before Xmas that he was the best juvenile he'd sat on this year. Doesn’t mean there is not one better that he has not ridden because Diakali looks pretty decent too.

Leopardstown 1.45 – Lough Roe Lady 9/1 was given far too much to do last time out. Think is still on a winning mark

Leopardstown 2.15 – Martin pulled off a shock in this race last year and he could well do it again with Wingtips 18/1 who will benefit from extra couple of furlongs.

Leopardstown 2.45 – Last year’s Albert Barlett runner up Boston Bob 5/4 is just a horse I really like. Battered Lyreen Legend over hurdles when giving 10lb which essentially removes Texas Jack, Lord W and Star N if you work through form lines.

Leopardstown 3.20 – What a race this will be. I think I might finally concede that Flemenstar is the better horse, but on this ground does his stamina hold out? If Sir Des Champs fixes up on his jumping I think over C&D might well have Flemenstar. The fly is Bog Warrior. If he translates his form back over chase obstacles 12/1 does seem attractive. I’ve putting my money in my pocket and going to enjoy the spectacle.

Had Surfer 20/1 rocked in yesterday would have been a happy man. Still content as am heading in the right direction and another big one will come! I hope. Tomorrow looks immense, so only a few today.

Bangor 1.30 – Golden Hoof 5/6 (Acc job). Hendo in good form and OR although we know Hendo horse often get merked by BHA, suggests has 8lb advantage.

Bangor 2.00 – Violin Davis 4/9 (Acc job). She goes here at Kempton too and should be a banker but too many short price burn outs for me of late.

Bangor 3.10 – I really tried to avoid looking at this card. Managed to avoid it for 5 minutes and then couldn’t decide between 5 horses. Rather than backing them all will just plump for Double Dizzy 12/1 who goes the distance and on the ground an on a good enough mark to win this. C&D winner Dermatologiste, Ten Fires, Presented and My Boy Paddy were the rest on shortlist.

Kempton 4.00 – Pete The Feat 2/1, back in trip and down in class to weight rise shouldn’t be a problem. (Acc job and single)

Newcastle 1.50 – Risky bet on Blazing Diva 8/1. Appears to pick up from around this time of year, goes on heavy, goes here and on a very lowly mark. These are perfect C&D conditions for him so no excuses but is not in very good form

Ouch. Whitewash yesterday. 8 races, no return. Buggereeno. Staying away from Class 4 and below as it merked me yesterday. Can Meydan rescue me today?

Clonmel 3.40 – Call The Police Evs based on last time out of every horse on the card. With the form I’m in over jumps no doubt something will bounce back and win! Grr

Doncaster 2.30 – Wings Of Smoke 7/2 has rock solid form to boast over this distance. The question is more whether he’ll take to Donny.

Doncaster 3.05 – Hada Men 11/2 again has decent form in the book, back down in class and stable still in good form

Doncaster 3.35 – Off The Ground 9/1 has been jumping left, so Donny will suit, back with Dom onboard and must go close based on penultimate race. This is though pretty open with lots of decent form lines.

Huntingdon 3.15 – Although Calculated Risk nailed me a big one, I don’t think the form has worked out that well. If you use Little Dutch Girl as a marker Sky Khan and Angelot Du Berlais should certainly not be bigger in the market. There’s a little bit of money coming in for Brinestine 6/1 for the Triumph so it may be worth taking a chance with this one

Meydan 3.15 – Hard. Layali Al Andalus (Placed). Had a 6lb allowance last time with claimer and that’s about 3 lengths over this distance. Will put in an e/w acc only

Meydan 4.25 – Music chart (Placed). Emotif is meant to be the real deal, so might be a threat. Will put in e/w acc only.

Meydan 5.00 – Sadly folks another tough race. I thought I’d go straight in for Ahzeemah but when you watch the last race the one who was really flashing home was Star Empire 6/1 who escapes a rise unlike Azhy. Again will put in e/w acc only.

Meydan 5.35 – Not getting any easier but this time I’m taking a chance with Surfer 20/1. A lot to like about the progressiveness and ability over C&D. Think has been overlooked by horses with ‘potential’. But the ratings suggest has no chance so is a risk as the price suggests.

Meydan 6.10 – I don’t know whether to stick with Ariete Arrollador or go with a horse I like in Kinglet 17/2. The latter it is.

Tempting to lump on short price favourites today, but I won't. Will bundle some of them up instead.

Carlisle 2.20 - Vulcanite 8/13 looks a couple classes above these.

Carlisle 2.55 – Hidden Identity 5/6 gets a solid 10lb and again short price but should do the job

Carlisle 3.30 – The Friary 11/4 looks well handicapped

Carlisle 4.05 – Knockara Beau 10/3 can win this race again. Not a bad effort last time out, and the old boy can prevail.

Ludlow 2.10 – Reginaldinho 11/10 looks very good, but the value may be with Danandy 25/1 or 12/1 w/o the favourite. There’s some PTP nuggets over similar conditions and he could be very well in.

Ludlow 2.40 - Smash n grab on New Year’s Eve 1/3

Ludlow 3.30 – Valmari 3/1 has jumping issues yes but looks a good price as a result

Ludlow 4.55 – Copper Birch was only a slight way behind At Fishers Cross. A Hendo and Nicholls unknown in this so be interesting to see if either of them prevails as will have great chances at Cheltenham

Kempton 6.35 – Wakeup Little Suzy 7/2 shaped well behind

Year 1: Update on Ban Jay Desai

Initial Pot: £1500.00. Total Staked: £75,116.42 Total Returned: £96,537.01  = Profit: £21,420.59

Wow! Happy 1st Birthday  Blog! Sorry I've neglected you! Hopefully the £21k will make up for it?

It’s been 20 weeks since I’ve written a weekly update, so a timely update I feel. Still, pretty lazy considering how arousing gee gee punting is. Since then, I’ve wagered circa 26k in return for 31k. Not bad, eh? I’ve been preoccupied with multiple distractions; COD, Fats daily picture updates, iphone apps and lashing. Lost time to several unavoidable circumstances; work, funerals and more work. And invested time in lifestyle choices; gym, marriage & cooking. All culminating in less time for blogging updates. I doubt this’ll change until after the stag in none other than Vegas and the wedding in April. Clearly I’m so attune to horses I subconsciously planned the Big Day on Grand National Day. Jokes. Wasn't so funny when I told Jess I want a big screen at the wedding to watch the Wyck Hill land my retirement…

Some random nuggets that may have popped up in the last 20 weeks of non-existent updates:
  • End of the Flat Season - The name Frankel has been less used of late, but he’ll live on forever. Will we see another like him? I freaking hope so. We need to update the Oxford dictionary. Any thoughts? Frankel. Dfn – to well and truly merk. Usage – ‘Arsenal frankelled West Ham’. ‘Sprinter Sacre will frankel his opposition in the QMCC’, although Sprinter will no doubt have his own entry one day too, and yes the past tense requires a double L. My P&L will show that the Hurricane Higgins and Sir Graham Wade was my most successful moment of the flat season. Both were Segal selections, yes, but I called Hurricane out as massively overpriced the day before and his tip up led me to the double, so thanks Tom. The only other horse I called out as massively overpriced didn’t disappoint @ 20/1. I massively benefited from following form. Mount Athos, the late Newfangled, Olympic Glory and Danedream lines all boosted my purse and the ones I wish I’d trusted but didn't were Mince and Jack Dexter.
  • Start of the Flat Season – Only place I look at in the dawn of the season. To the man who rates these bad boys and racy chicks. Matthew Tester. He quoted Workforce as the dark horse the year he won the Derby, Carlton House to give the Queen a royal Derby winner (was uber close) and he was also right about last year's crop - average. This year his selection for the 1k is Just The Judge @ 20/1. Next year is going to be immense. I can feel it. Just bring us some bleeding sunshine.
  • P&L – Clearly it’s all about the accumulators but unfortunately I’m pants at working out the best value accumulators. Two £15 e/w doubles have resulted in 6k and 7k returns so rather than all this £2.50 e/w treble x 20 lines nark I need to grow some balls and punt on a handful of horses with max bet (£30). The graph resembles some form of dinosaur skeleton; Buncosaurus?

  • Discipline – Lost that. Naughty. Max bet (£30) has to stand. Graph below shows I have been boozing and flirting with debt of late, but thankfully no hangover or herpes. I entered the chasing game other weekend and Mr Watson bailed me out, but it could have wiped out my Vegas fund and then some.

  • Weather – Gash. Seriously, wtf. Not peeved with cancellations as London transport has me well trained, but what happens if Cheltenham is firm. How the hell do we assess genuine current form on that ground when all we've seen is ground resembling the sewers in London in 1848. Class is class, and class generally prevails irrelevant of ground, but calling those wide open races becomes all the more difficult. This is just my blabber, but it has stopped me from piling into Antepost bets.
  • Antepost Bets – I have a few to write off. Darlan – RIP. Newfangeld – RIP. I’m hoping the bookies will start offering NRNB soon. I’m gagging for it. Give it to me. Please. I've not tucked into any of Tom ‘Pricewise’ Segal from the RacingPost bets except for Cotton Mill.
  • Will anyone ever ban me? – I’m struggling to be honest. There was a period where WillHill were sending most of my bets to their trader but Boylesports might be the most likely. My P&L with each of the bookies is below, although I’m now limiting my betting with any of them who do not offer Best Price Guaranteed. Paddy Power, Stan James, Bet365, Boylesports and BetVictor are generally the ones I’m homing in on as they offer BPG.

    Row Labels Sum of Profit
    Bet365 -£184.80
    Betfair £900.48
    BoyleSports £235.50
    Ladbrokes £678.66
    Paddy Power £2,681.45
    Skybet -£231.13
    Sportingbet £267.17
    Stanjames £1,268.41
    WillHill £8,397.73
    Totesport -£90.00
    Betfred £119.75
    BetVictor £5,910.67
    888.com £1,466.70
    Grand Total £21,420.59

  • Cheltenham and Grand National – Nothing insightful, yet. Merry King and Wyck Hill are two I’m excited about.
  • Meydan – Seem to have picked up a trick or two. Draw, surface(tapeta) and ones flying home over a shorter distance in like races appear to be working well for me.
  • Stats & Videos and looking for potential – No substitution for fact. Videos - Worth the investment. Stats - Trainers with records in races at specific tracks when in good form are worth investigating. The RP gives you it all. Looking for potential though is tough. It's what Segal breathes. I’m not experienced, I don’t claim to know what I’m doing but I’m learning and that’s what led me to the Calculated Risk and King Helissio double. Bosh.
Right, I’m teetering out of random thoughts. Bring on some more racing.

I don't understand how Loyalty drifted even further, but I'm complaining. On paper it doesn't make sense. A 6/1 Meydan winner and Carruthers kept me above water yesterday. No time for explanations or any real studying today but a few more for the books today:

In Paris this weekend and last night and I was duly informed by an article I randomly read that Fofana is the man to be on for top try scorer. Okay then. I would much rather have watched Diamond Frontier rock in at 25/1 instead of being second but the Six Nations does have an appeal.

Tom Pricewise Segal from the Racingpost has gone mental again with 4 bets. He's on a BAD run again, and it's costing me bucks:

Ffos Las 2.05 - The Romford Pete 16/1, Tanerko Emery 5/1
Ffos Las 2.40 - Carruthers 14/1
Sandown 3.35 - Summery Justice

My thoughts shortly....

Ffos Las 2.05 - Interesting is Balder Success but trainer says horse doesn't like big fields. Oscara Dara surprised me last time but now surely is merked by weights and step up in class? Pipe reckons Tankerko Emery is on to be on, so does Segal so will stick with his two selections.

Ffos Las 2.40 - Carruthers is a horse I really like and Segal is right to back him at the prices. I have a problem with this race because I really like both Cannington Brook 11/2 and Shaking Hands 8/1. Argh

Ffos Las 3.45 - A number of these swtiching back to hurdles and lots of potentially well handicapped horses. I'm going to have half bets on Ski Sunday 12/1 and Jumps Road 14/1 based on C&D form on heavy and formlines.

Sandown 1.50 - You have to back something with the Williams Wishes formline over C&D. Trouble is which one. I seemingly can't watch videos from abroad on RP which is annoying, but at the prices I'll go with Falcon Island 10/1

Sandown 3.35 - Not backing Segal's tip in this (at my own peril). Instead I like Keppols Hill 9/4

Wetherby 2.45 - Sammys Gone 4/1 looks decent and Hobbs going well at the moment

Lingfield 3.30 - Put a line through last race and Loyalty 12/1 is too big

Meydan on saturday's tend to be harder to call than Thursday's so not going overboard. Prices aren't yet up either but I'll still back them

Meydan 2.50 - Journalistic has potential on this mark and it all depends whether Fallon can bring him from the back to breeze home.

Meydan 3.25 - Al Razi is in blinding form and claimer who knows the horse has good chance to rock in again

Meydan 4.35 - Last Fighter 5/4 has been slapped with an 8lb rise. One he can defy as had heaps in hand

5 solid winners yesterday, but I'm really vexed with myself. I misread rerouted's form in a race which was a big clue for his win. I read it as a handicap as opposed to a NH race. Argh. That would have been a sweet £7.5k as I landed the other 3 at Meydan. Genuinely never been this annoyed at lack of attention to detail. I won't get over this one easily, but just have to make sure it doesn't set that chasing chip off in my head. I still made a couple hundred quid yesterday. Take it and be happy Desai.

Lingfield 1.00 - Gary Moore has won this race twice before and Ryan Moore has been booked on Galiotto 4/1. I shouldn't back this, I know I shouldn't because on paper he shouldn't win, but I'm doing it for the stats. But, I almost want to lose so I don't do it again.

Catterick 1.40 - Hidden Justice 4/6

Catterick 2.10 - Marie Des Anges 8/11

Catterick 2.45 - Was a bit tipsy last night and saw Tell Me Y 6/1 beat At Fisher's Cross. Thankfully only put usual stake on. Being tipsy didn't check anything else and actually that was at 2m not 3m so totally different proposition. I wouldn't back it now, but it's too late for me.

Catterick 3.55 - Diamond Frontier 20/1. Probably in decline, but Wade has a decent chase strike rate here and if in the right mood is on a very low mark with an additional 7lb claim.

Wolves 6.30 - Aryal 4/9

Dundalk 6.50 - Pique Sous 4/6
