Bets 31/08/2012

I was really looking forward to piling into Havana Gold today, but sadly is a NR.

Sandown 3.25 - Rock God's 7/4 form is rock solid behind Steeler. There are a lot of unknowns so is not a banker.

Salisbury 6.35 - Califante 7/2. Hannon has won this 3 years in a row. Clearly Havana Gold would have been my pick and hope I'm not taking this route because of the Hannon factor. It's a tough race though. Interesting to take on any of Zarooni's horses with the below form on show, but I will.

Bets 26/08/2012

With 3 races left yesterday I was in trouble. But then up pops a 16/1 winner, 25/1 place, followed by another 7/2 winner. Thank the Lord.

Goodwood 2.45 - Blue Surf 9/2. Backed this last time and thought was going to land a big 14/1 winner. Decent placed effort and chance again as handles the ground.

Goodwood 3.20  - Producer 9/2 based on form. Hannon has won this race a few time too and Hughes is a master at Goodwood.

Curragh 3.10 - Fire  Lily 3/1. Form franked and likes C&D

Bets 25/08/2012 - Ebor Festival Day 4

Two days ago I was feeling the pain of York. Lessons learnt and yesterday my singles and e/w trebles of Kirthill, Dubai Prince, Lord of The Garter, Cay Verder, Royal Aspiration and Nocturnal Affair brought me home 1k. If anyone saw the race Wentworth won, you might be able to imagine how I felt when I thought Lord of the Garter was going to hold on to land me a 2400/1 treble. Argh. Anyway such is punting. My time will come again.

Tom 'Pricewise' Segal from the RacingPost has tipped:

Antepost Bets:
York 3.40 - Tominator 33/1

Today's Bets:
York 2.30 - Cardinal Walter 10/1
Goodwood 2.45 - Arnold Lane 12/1
York 3.40 - Icon Dream 20/1

My thoughts after a bit more sleep...

York 2.00 – We know the conditions are not going to be fast, so a number of these can be ruled out (based of trainer comments and previous form). Beacon Lodge 14/1 to bounce back in first time head gear or Doncaster Rover 6/1 to land the race double.

York 2.30 – A good pick out of Cardinal Water 10/1 by Pricewise today. If you eliminate progression has a huge chance at the weights. Gospel Choir has won me over £500 this year and although I want to back him again he’s not a dead cert like last time out and Gabrial the Great 12/1 cannot be written off here.

York 3.05 – Cavalryman 9/2. I can’t take that skinny price of Saddlers Rock especially with Murtagh onboard.

York 3.40 – I’ve backed Motivado e/w 20/1 Antepost, so happy about that. I also followed Segal and backed Tominator and Icon Dream. But, my other bet for today has to be an old boy Blue Bajan 28/1, 4 places without Motivado. Ran a blinder behind Mount Athos, likes it here and now below last winning mark. Drawn down the centre so all good.

York 4.50 – Top Notch Tinto 25/1 and maybe Old Man Clegg 18/1

York 5.20 – Easterby can be a sly one with his handicap horses, and no surprise to see a 5lb claimer on Last Bid 20/1 who flew home over C&D in May

Goodwood 2.15 – I said I’d back Amazonas 20/1 next time out so I will. Dean Oliver reckons Arbeel 8/1 based on PCH’s tip. To be fair he has had a blinding season with 2yr olds.

Goodwood 2.45 – Think Segal has picked another nice selection here in Arnold Land. This is far too tough to say it’s a winner. Powerful Presence has been backed in, but Google tells me that’s the force of the morning line. This one is causing me a headache, but Fulbright 13/2 will def go close again.

Goodwood 3.20 – This is going to be an amazing race and I just can’t pick the winner. This is a first for me – not betting on a decent race!

Goodwood 5.05 – My Sharona 7/2 has solid form.

Newmarket 2.50 – A Boy Named Suzi would have won at Goodwood if it were not for a certain Motivado and Fulgur looks interesting, but with the 3yr old allowance Handsome Man 7/1 feels a good price.

Curragh 4.25 – Gale Force Ten 6/5 – Ladbrokes are avoiding.

Bets 24/08/2012 - Ebor Festival Day 3

D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R. Couple of fancied non-runners in Blessington and Night Lily. Couple horses I've backed twice before but to no avail pop up in the winners enclosure in Hototo and Shareta. Three favourites turned over! Argh. I think I went down £400 in total. Ek. I hate York. I remember the day I went to York with Desai Jnr and lost £1200. Not a single winner or single place!

Right, enough moping, Tom 'Pricewise' Segal has tipped two today:

York 2.00 - Willie Wag Tail 10/1
York 2.30 - Lewisham 7/1

York 2.00 – Hmm. There are about 5 I like in this so need to be careful and so many have slipped to dangerous marksl! We’ve seen a number of horses get a good beating last time out at Goodwood before bouncing back from solid form at the Ebor, therefore Kirthill 14/1 is a solid price based on his Listed Handicap run behind Gatewood. Niggling doubt is his one run over York, but get impressive after a slow start the jockey gave up. Martin Chuzzlewit 12/1, first time headgear for an inform stable who have won this twice in last 5 years is of interest. I’m unwillingly putting a line through Tepmokea and go for Bridie Bell 20/1. I’ve also hesitantly drawn a line through Right Step and Silver Lime. I SHOULD NOT BE BETTING IN THIS! Ah Silvery Moon 20/1. Hmm

York 2.30 – The Alhebayeb form doesn’t stack up so rules out Lewisham and Heavy Metal. I’ve backed Cay Verde 14/1 a couple of times, but I have a feeling 6f on this ground may well be right up his street. Saying that the obvious choice is Morawij 5/2, who has form all over the place. Finding it hard to back after favourites burnt out yesterday.

York 3.05 – Dubai Prince let me down at Goodwood last time. He won’t again at 6/1. Dettori has a tremendous record in this race as well!

York 3.40 – The Nunthorpe Stakes – A much stronger renewal last year and I’m a bit annoyed about the rain (again). Was hoping for true speed. Now it’s even harder to pick. So hard in fact Segal has even bailed! I backed Bogart 50/1 antepost. You can get 66/1 now. It’s a tough ask though as the odds suggest. If the ground were firm I think you’d back a combination tricast with Ortensia, Sole Power, Bated Breath and Pearl Secret. It’s not though, so have to start crossing lines through some of them! I can’t see anything that lost to Ortensia last time out beating especially at the weights, unless gets caught in traffic. I’m very troubled with this, but I’ll pick 3. Pearl Secret 5/1 – Barron’s comments are very very very bullish. Nocturnal Affair 25/1 who is over priced and a wild random punt on Secret Witness 100/1. Decent draw, trainer record here solid and he busted out a treble yesterday, so his horses are firing.

York 4.15 – Hmm shouldn’t bet but Lord of The Garter 25/1

York 4.50 – Royal Aspiration 20/1

Total Staked £495.00, Total Returned £1,345.08

Antepost Bets:

Bets 23/08/2012 - Ebor Festival Day 2

I've not calculated my p&l for yesterday as punted across multiple bookies hawking the best price, but one double returned £237.50, so hopeful I broke even. I was on leave yesterday so I had the opportunity to watch the markets before the off. Everyone winner except Thought Worthy was backed in before the off!!!! Having had a few big priced places, feel like I'm on the right path, but really need one of them to come in!

Tom 'Pricewise' Segal from the RacingPost has tipped up:

York 2.00 - Blessington 6/1
York 3.05 - Kahruman 9/1, Strictly Silver 25/1

My thoughts after 10am but eyeing up a Gosden/Buick Treble!

8.20am update...I’ve just relived the Frankel moment. Superlatives no longer do him justice. I would love to see him in the Arc. Unlikely, but really, nothing can stop him. He is sheer class; in his own league.

York 2.00 – Annunciation 10/1. Blessington is interesting at 6/1

York 2.30 – Newfangled Evs. Gosden/Buick Double? My selection for a classic next year so will stick with it

York 3.05 – Navajo Chief 16/1 – won this last year and now a lower mark with a top notch claimer. Danadana franks form as well. Based on Listed race over C&D Prince of Johanne 16/1 is also appealing. Anderiego 8/1 with 2 easy wins over C&D, goes up 6lb, but strong shout.

York 3.40 – The Fugue 7/4. Gosden/Buick Treble? Looked seriously classy last time out.

York 4.15 – Sequence 7/4. Do it for the Queen

York 4.50 – Riot of Colour 13/2 is one I’ve followed for a while, whilst Night Lily 16/1 is one I keep on side too

Total Staked £630.00, Total Returned £285.00

Bets 22/08/2012 - Ebor Festival Day 1

There are some incredible line ups in store this week @ York. It's going to be mega exciting. I do however feel sceptical on the punting side. I've not kept as close to the form as I need to, but that can often be thrown out at York. The way I will do this is backing some with the form and some with the C&D form even if not in good form. Tom 'Pricewise' Segal from the Racingpost has tipped:

York 2.00 - Lexi's Hero 25/1, Rex Imperator 9/1
York 3.05 - Noble Mission 5/1

My thoughts after a strong caffeine kick...

8.00am update - I'm not as confident as I normally I going into a festival day, and I seemed to have picked a lot of the bottom of the market. Not sure how well today will play out, but will hopefully aid for the other days!

York 2.00 – Awesome. A 20 runner race to start the day! Feck a big short list and I don’t know where to go. Dickies Lad 28/1 is a York horse. First time headgear, Lee onboard and back on a decent mark. Fitz Flyer 28/1 has a visor back on and suited him well last time. I’ve backed the two bottom in the market. Hmm. I think I’ve done something wrong? I’m not sure how I feel about the 3yr olds although can’t argue with the formline of Rex Imperator 9/1.

York 2.30 – I’ve not called many 2yr old races, unless at the highest, highest level with a few races in the bag. There are horses who have won by 5, 9 and 12lenghts and form behind Ghurair. I’ll stay away.

York 3.05 – I said I’d back Main Sequence 9/4 next time out, so I will. Interestingly Thomas Chippendale has been backed in a few places for the St.Leger, so 9/2 might be a good each way price?

York 3.40 – Frankel, SNA, Farhh Tricast

York 4.15 – A number of these raced last time out at York in a race Herostatus won. If you watch the race clearly the one who will benefit with the weights if doesn’t go solo on a slower part of track again is Deauville Flyer 16/1. But, if you look through the form then actually the stand out horses are Very Good Day 20/1 and Reem Star 20/1. Problem is I’ve written off horses that have not run here before or had a bad run here before. If you look at last 3 winners of this race, then that is not a good omen. Ahh although just seen Dazinski 11/1. Won this last year, similar weight. Feck. What to do!

York 4.50 – There are so many in good form here it’s difficult to know where to start. Actually think this is the hardest race of the day. Kiwi Bay probably should not be 40/1. This horse has come run a few decent races here and each time has been crying out for a step up in trip. With a 7lb claimer has a better chance than 40/1. I think I like Ottoman Empire 20/1 and is weighted to go well if reproduces run in last C2Handicap. Sir John Hawkwood was a much bigger price yesterday so can’t back it now.

A lot of thinks, maybes and mights...Hmmm

Midday update...Kiwi Bay NR. Replaced with Van Der Art 12/1

Bets 20/08/2012

Some of the entries for York this week look ever so tasty. I'm on hols Wed and Thursday so will be able to get some solid reviews in! Until then...

Thirsk 3.00 - A lot of money heading the way of Waking Warrior who has finished 2nd twice here before and has a decent draw. The price is as skinny as 7/2 from 6/1, and must have a decent chance. However, I've missed those prices now and if I bet w/o the favourite I like Mandalay King 18/1 w/o Waking Warrior. If he gets a decent start (for once) will go close. The other I like is Defence Council 8/1 who seems to have appreciated drop down to 5f. Down in class today and Hanagan up.

Deauville 1.30 – Reckless Abandon 7/4 all day long

Newmarket 3.20 - Priceless Jewel 10/1

I'll have a look at cards in a few hours....
1.22pm update....I've not shifted the hangover and I can offer zero value today. I've put such little effort in. I'm going to go and lie on the balcony and hope a couple of these come in...

Bets 17/08/2012

Newbury 3.25 – Grandiloquent 3/1 looks one to bag a couple more handicaps, but Lily in Pink w/o the fav 9/1 looks a strong contender. That form behind Western Prize, floats with Mount Athos. There are a few hurdlers in here who could pose a huge problem, but I’ll punt on most of them needing this run.

Newbury 4.00 – Liber’s form keeps taking knocks in my book and after backing New Fforest last time to no avail, I’ll go with a different form line. Lasilia 8/1. I reckon a number of these will take each other on upfront to quickly which will be perfect for Lasilia if held up to perfection.

Newbury 5.05 – Banu Wu

Newmarket 6.25 – SP Favourite. Glory City is currently 6/1, but imagine will be shorter after Al Waab hacked up yesterday.

No idea what happened to Emirates Queen yesterday. All I know is I lost £82.50 on her.

Salisbury 3.25 – Urban Daydream 9/2

Salisbury 3.55 – Tullius 11/4, although Mehdi 33/1, first time blinkers is tempting. Good to soft will help, but obviously needs to raise game. But Trade Commissioner 2/1 is also in this race. On second thoughts maybe I shouldn’t bet on this.

Newmarket 3.45 – Luhaif’s 9/4 form behind Olympic Glory must must must make him hard to beat. He’ll have to dictate the pace though. Hope this form stacks up.

Newmarket 5.25 – Suegioo 7/2 looks nicely handicapped and has had a lot of C&D practice!

I only got two things right yesterday, but was enough to make me a tiny profit. The Sun Central and Gospel Choir formline. A £30 12/1 double was a sweet victory. And to top the Sun Central race off backing Ahzeemah 13/2 w/o Sun Central. Everything else was pretty useless. Thinking that the girl’s team would win the Shergar Cup when I’d not heard of two of the jockeys was reckless. Personal view is Galician was ridden badly and could have bagged me another valuable double, but that’s just my view. My accumulator strategy is still not right. Yes it’s winning me bucks, but £1000 in 10 days on accumulators is seeking retirement but not seeking value. My biggest wins have come from fewer horses and larger bets in accumulators not punting 35 lines with smaller stakes. I will learn. One thing I have learnt is to stay away from Ireland, so I will.

Deauville 2.40 – Segal has plumped for Tin Horse 20/1. The 3yr olds do very well in this and Elusive Kate’s record must not be ignored. Clearly Moonlight Cloud is the one to beat, so I’ll plump for Elusive Kate 6/1 w/o Moonlight Cloud. This is going to be a cracking race!

Bets 11/08/2012

Another terrible day yesterday. I ended up with £240 on Bowlder's Magic which coughed up a some money, but def another ton or so down.

Tom Pricewise Segal from the Racinpost has 3 tips up his sleeve today:

Ascot 1.30 - Bernie The Bolt 9/1
Ascot 2.50 - Sun Central 5/1
Ascot 3.50 - Galician 6/1

My thoughts shortly..

12.50pm update...

Ascot 12.55 – A few I Like here, but I’m taking a stance not to back more than 2 in any race. Stevie Thunder 10/1 and Bancn’n 5/1. I know nothing about Emma Jayne Wilson but the horse's form against Uppercut is solid.

Ascot 1.30 – Segal has gone for Bernie The Bolt 8/1 who won this two years ago. Woolfall Treasure has been 2nd for the last two years and must be considered. Emma Jayne Wilson looks to have a decent ride again with Lyric Street 9/2

Ascot 2.05 – Staying away from this. Too many decent chances.

Ascot 2.40 – All the money is for Sun Central 5/1. Think Ahzeemah 13/2 (w/o Sun Central) has a chance is he stays.

Ascot 3.15 – Viking Storm’s 11/2 form keeps getting franked behind Mount Athos. Nanton 16/1 is well weighted if can bounce back.

Ascot 3.50 – Segal has gone for Galician 6/1. I also like Heerat 9/2.

I have no idea how good a couple of these female jockeys are, but I reckon they have the better horses, so 11/4 for Girls Team to win looks good. If EJW is decent then 10/1 is decent for her to win and Yutaka Take 11/1 also decent price.

Haydock 2.20 – Gospel Choir 5/2. Him and Sun Central @ Ascot should fly the flag for this formline. (I hope)

Haydock 2.55 – Gabrial 5/2 gets a 3yr old allowance which might win this for him

Haydock 3.25 – Art Scholar 12/1

Haydock 4.00 – Irish History 2/1. Best OR so sometimes not worth taking on the BHA.

Newmarket 3.00 – White Frost 6/1. Good C&D record, good form behind Dimension, first time hood.

Newmarket 5.20 – No guaranteed front runners except Moon Trip 11/4. We’ve seen how well his horses who can dictate the pace go. Darren Egan onboard.

Newmarket 5.55 – Sputnik Sweetheart 11/4. Hughes likes this one and has form behind Mizwaaj

Redcar 2.00 – Reconsider Bay Evs

I took a big beat down yesterday. Around £300 and I fully blame DeanO' as he went to Sandown and asked me to have a look at the card. Had no intention to prior to his mail, but at the same time I did pick 'em out and they were pretty dire.

Musselburgh 3.00 – Liber 4/9. Short price, but should be a banker.

Brighton 3.40 – Another Citizen 7/2 is a couple of lengths ahead of the handicapper

Sir Graham Wade. If only I wedged more. I'm so surprised he was not a lot shorter. Anyhow, a 20minute lunchtime scan for today...

Brighton 2.20 – Scommettrice 5/6 is winning fairly easily at the  moment and looks set to go again. Hopefully Hughes won’t repeat his winning antics.

Haydock 2.40 – Social Rhythm 4/1. Hacked up last time out. Whillans on fire (33%) and has good record here (21%)

Yarmouth 3.00 – Yes It’s The Boy 11/8. Walker is 5/8 at Yarmouth and I think Ted Durcan has worked out the key to this horse.

Haydock 5.10 – Nadema Rose 7/2 looks well handicapped, but may still go e/w.

Sandown 5.40 – New Fforest 5/6 based on form behind Liber

Sandown 6.10 – A really tough one I think and can’t pick between first couple in the market. Therefore will punt for Johnno 10/1. Previous C&D winner and decent form behind Stirring Ballard and Jacob Cats.

Sandown 6.40 – Raging Bear 7/2. Backed this last time out and appeared to make decent headway towards end so step up is a plus, especially with Hughes onboard.

Sandown 8.20 – Sunshine Always 20/1. Massive risk as has been off for a year, but has decent form last year. Attwater won with a 28/1 yesterday and although doesn’t win many worth a punt at the price also with a 5lb claimer.

Tom Segal has tipped Shantaram 12/1 for the St Leger. I get that backing a Gosden horse might be the only way to beat Camelot, but surely need the ground to be soft to stand a chance. Gosden has won the St. Leger every time he has had runners in race including the last two years!

Catterick 2.20 - Prescott is on fire and has a decent record here. Medicoe 10/11 looks to have best form on paper. Problem is the Johnston horse, but I'll take it on.

Catterick 3.20 - North Central 8/1. Lee and Goldie banged in Hawk over the weekend so be worth starting to follow Goldie. North Central was 2nd in this last year of 6lb higher so worth a punt along with Gap Princess 6/1 who loves it here, in good form and has a good draw. Might have a r f/c on this. Although now having placed my bets noticed Bay of Fires has been back from 12/1 into 4/1 in places. Oh well. Too late now.

Catterick 4.50 - Eijaaz 7/4 to enhance C&D record. I'm going to have to do a Johnston Accumulator as seem to be taking him on a lot which is a ridic thing to do considering current form

Week 25: Update on Ban Jay Desai

Initial Pot: £1500.00. Total Staked: £37,889.10, Total Returned: £52,658.00  = Profit: £14,768.90

In the early parts of this blog, I code named bookies with women out of FHM’s Top 100 sexiest women of 2011. Why? Well, initially it was to avoid giving away the bookie I was targeting, though in hindsight that made no sense and the evolved reason was for the banter. Ordinarily I’d never be able to write ‘I slammed Marrisa Miller today’ or ‘Rosie Huntingdon continues to dish it out to me’, but code names meant I could! All it really meant was I was taking more money from Paddy Power and Bet365 respectively. The combination of similar words also meant the blog was visited by web users looking for some stud farm footage.

I’m sacking off the hot chicks and focusing on business. This week I took a MASSIVE step to being banned by William Hill. They are restricting every bet I make to only returning around £60. Why? Well, of the stonking £8,500 I made this week, Willhill coughed up £7,000. So, I’m now into the final phases of completing this bizarre undertaking; most want to avoid being banned by a bookmaker…

The Goodwood Festival is always littered with bad luck stories and there were plenty again this week. Human greed means, that despite my mini victories I still feel frustrated with some of the results. With the Olympics on I’m not going to spend priceless minutes summarising the week but there are a few things to call out. Johnston is clearly The Glorious Goodwood training hero. Hughes is clearly the Glorious Goodwood jockey hero, although watch out for Darren Egan; bright future ahead of him. The Fugue is now clearly the top middle distance 3yr old filly, and surprised the Arc isn’t on the agenda? Aljamaaheer is definitely one to back next time out. Motivado was worth backing for the Ebor at 20/1, and thankfully I did. And finally, Frankel always has been but further cemented his place as untouchable. There’s a great article in the RP today describing why perfection is not enough for Frankel anymore.

How insanely well are GB doing?! 18 golds. Amazing. And Bolt. Why I ever doubted him! Lightening. Imagine, Frankel (roughly 42.5mph) vs Bolt (roughly 27.3mph) over 200m. Now there’s a gameshow. Human v Horse.

I've only just woken up, not read the RP, not really checked the cards, but will stick with the Johnston machine. I managed to backed Galician yesterday at 4/1 but I just missed 6/1!

Chester 3.05 - Van Ellis 8/15 (placed)
Chester 3.40 - Galician 4/1 e/w

2.38pm update... Having just ready the RP, Segal has gone for Lockwood 12/1 in 2.40 Deauville. Not sure if it's wise to take on Moonlight Cloud though! Only managed to get 6/1.

Knew shouldn't have taken on Moonlight Cloud. Segal's record on Sunday's is nowhere near his Super Saturday records! Anyway...

Bets 04/08/2012 - Glorious Goodwood Day 5

Albaqaa got hampered, Dubai Prince was no good and really, I was saved by Johnston and Keltic Crisis. Can't believe I didn't put more than £84.82 on the latter. It basically had a 14 length head start! Anyway, I've not had a thorough looks at the cards yet for tomorrow, but Es Que Love 25/1 and Harlestone Times 16/1 look stand out prices already, so I've had a nice double on that. The former is a Johnston horse, and has form behind Black Caviar so looks a worthy bet at this level. The latter's form has been franked  by Hurricane Higgins and I'd not be surprised if Segal tips it up as well. No more spunking hundreds on accumulators though! Will post Segal tips up tomorrow morning....

7.30am update...Tom 'Pricewise' Segal from the Racingpost has tipped:
Goodwood 2.05 - Jarrow 20/1
Goodwood 2.40 - Motivado 10/1
Goodwood 3.55 - Jamesie 12/1

If you want the prices, Ladbrokes put them up about 8.17am and Willhill 8.30am. My thoughts later...

9.15am update...Lots of money for lots of horses. Market prior to race hasn't been the best indicator, but if there's been late money it has been fairly accurate...

Goodwood 2.05 – Johannes 20/1 won this 2 years ago and gets to run off the same mark with the claimer onboard. Looking for Tax Free 12/1 to go well today as well despite his age. Don’t understand Segal’s choice in Jarrow 20/1 but I always follow. Oneladyowner 20/1 ran a blinder last time here and Buick up again, so will know how to judge him. Depending on the market might look at El Viento 40/1 and Nasri 11/1. Think I’ve chosen too many. Oh dear, not a promising start.

Newmarket 2.20 – Usain Colt 7/2

Goodwood 2.40 – Segal has gone for Motivado. I’m plumping for Harlestone Times 16/1 who runs well here and has solid form behind Mount Athos and ahead of Uppercut. Solar Sky 20/1 might be worth a shout as well. If Segal has got it right about Motivado, might be worth a bet on the Ebor now 20/1?

Goodwood 3.15 – Are Gosden’s horses finally on a comedown? Not sure. Cecil has had 4 winners this meeting and if I take Izzi Top out the equation Timepiece 8/1 (w/o Izzi Top) ex is quite tasty. Timepiece and Announce are quite closely matched on form against Announce, but at the prices Timepiece gets the vote.

Goodwood 3.55 – When Dandy Boy won at Ascot Segal was fuming and said he always backs David Marnane’s horses in valuable handicaps. He didn’t so no surprise he has tipped up Jamesie 12/1. Mac’s Power 12/1 ran very well in this last year. Fanshawe has knocked in a few winners this week, down 3lb from last year, Moore onboard, and decent last run behind Shrophsire, so all set up for a good ride. Not letting a Johnston horse go; Es Que Love 25/1. The last one is an emotive bet on Borderlescott 20/1. Very old now but on a mark he could defy. He lights up at Goodwood.

Doncaster 4.00 – Conduct 9/2 could be a massacre?

Goodwood 4.30 – I listen to what Hughesy says. He reckons Wentworth is up there with Torando and co, so it’s an easy bet in a race I wouldn’t know where to start. Prices aren’t up yet. The RP reckons it’ll be around 11/2, I reckon around 2/1 if lucky.

Goodwood 5.05 – Dominate 9/4 ran well here on Tuesday, gets in on a very workable mark. Hughes also likes his chances.

Goodwood 5.40 – Hoping the bookies take a beat down on another favourite today. After Landaman’s rout earlier in the week he gets MJMMurphy onboard who has won here twice this week. Admitteldly I’m not looking through the card but must be strong 6/4 chance.

Bets 03/08/2012 - Glorious Goodwood Day 4

Oh dear. After such a victorious moment on Day 2, the cherry was sliced off on Day 3. Was a tad annoyed with Dobbsy as didn’t look to give Blue Surf a tough time in the first and annoyed with myself for not backing Stirring Ballad. Everything else was a mare and I’m certainly not touching open jumps racing at this point in the season again. There’s no form to go with. I’m also sacking off backing Weld blindly @ Galway. Right, hopefully can get back on track today.

Tom ‘ Pricewise’ Segal from the RacingPost has put up:
Goodwood 2.35 – Stipulate 9/1
Goodwood 3.10 – Albaqaa 12/1 (I backed this last night after watching last run. Looked overpriced) and he has also gone for Johnston's Fulbright 9/1
Goodwood 3.45 – Angels Will Fall 16/1

My thoughts later...

On Day 1 and 2 I ignored draw bias as didn’t think it would make difference, and it didn’t. I didn’t realise that yesterday they opened up a 6 metre strip of fresh track. Whether it made a difference I don’t know, but all the big guns have chosen to go low of Saturday’s handicap. I’ll probably have an accumulator on some of the favs today, but will still look for bigger priced singles!

Goodwood 2.00 – After watching Gatewood’s last run it wasn’t a clear cut win but reckon that was due to ground. Gosden has won 1 from 4 this week, and all the money last night was for Gatewood. But, I really want to back Dubai Prince 6/1. GD had him marked down as a Derby horse so if he is as good as they thought 6/1 is a decent price. I’ll no doubt back Gatewood in an accumulator as a hedge.

Goodwood – 2.35 – Gregorian 10/3 is the obvious choice but Coup De Ville is overpriced at 14/1 with Thistle Bird storming a listed race and Highland Knight who he beat by 4 lengths also winning a listed race easily. Trumpet Major will have to do it all with 4lb penalty

Goodwood 3.10 – Segal and I have gone for Albaqaa 12/1. Came from the back very strongly and will hopefully be ridden a bit earlier this time round. Segal has also tipped Fulbright. I wonder though whether Bannock 25/1 is the better value Johnston horse? Might be hard to avoid backing Field of Dream 12/1 as well. He has some serious pace and Spencer is the jockey you want on board navigating through traffic coming from the back

Goodwood 3.45 – Segal has put up Angels will Fall 16/1. Only managed to get 10’s, but interesting that Stall 1 has won twice as many runnings as any other stall. Can this really be telling? Either way it looks like the low numbers are the place to be based on what the trainers have gone for on Saturday, therefore this is about Tangerine Trees 7/1

Goodwood 4.20 – Seems to be a bit of a gamble going on with Oasis Cannes 5/1. And why not. Prescott has had 7 winners this week, has stall 1 and is highest RPR. String Conviction 33/1 is interesting behind Sir Prancelot and Mister Marc. Looks temperamental but first time visor may sort this. Also can’t help notice Glass Office 18/1. One length behind Morawij and closely matched with Master of War who finished 2nd yesterday in G1C2 race here yesterday.

Goodwood 4.50 – All eyes on Gamilati 7/4. If the wide drawn is a hindrance Sunday Nectar 18/1 looks very interesting.

Goodwood 5.25 – It’s likely that I’ve now got money eyes and am going for long shots, rather than using the usual logic, but I’m tempted by Heyward Girl 33/1. Something went wrong last time out, but the from behind Es Que Love in a C2 race isn’t the worst and a drop to 5f is definitely a bonus. Powerful Wind 22/1 worth a punt back on quick ground

Bangor 6.05 – Keltic Crisis 7/4 was a non runner last time out, but still gets to run being 24lb ahead of handicapper, on good ground. Must have a great chance.

Bets 02/08/2012 - Glorious Goodwood Day 3

JAY DESAI! £8k profit yesterday. Am yet to update the pennies, but one account shows £7.912.50 and another £895.00. I can’t take all the credit, well actually, yes I can, but Segal handed me Sir Graham Wade and his bullishness about Hurricane Higgins added fuel to my fire about the Hurricane so I submitted at £15 e/w double on the pair. Alleluia. Shame I didn’t treble it with My Queenie who pulled through for me this time, but I won't complain. The next best thing about yesterday was the 4th race. I picked out 1st, 2nd and 4th, but annoyingly I unwilling let 3rd go off my shortlist. I’ve not seen any of the races from yesterday yet but am duly informed I have another Frankel demolition job to watch. Before I delve into the cards…

Tom ‘Pricewise’ Segal from the Racing post has tipped:
Goodwood 2.15 – Prussian 10/1, Asatir 8/1
Goodwood 3.45 – Hazel Lavery 9/1
Galway 4.50 – Drive Time 8/1

My thoughts shortly...

Goodwood 2.15 – Segal has gone for Prussian and Asatir. Tough one to call for me as can’t see too many form lines I like. The closest I get is Blue Surf 14/1, but tentatively as Cecils’ Wrotham Heath could be dangerous as could Johnston’s Switzerland who is running of a feather weight and could bounce back. Not backing either though.

Goodwood 2.45 – Ahern 2/1

Goodwood 3.15 – I can’t choose between Saddlers Rock and Colour Vision, so I’ll go for the value in Nehaam 16/1. Back over 2m, good ground, we could see an improved performance, but not sure is good enough to win.

Goodwood 3.45 – Segal has gone with Hazel Lavery 9/1. I’ve heard such good things about Hawaafez 7/2. I’ve also seen it. I do fear Estimate with the age allowance so will go Hawaafez 2/1 without Estimate.

Goodwood 4.20 – After yesterday’s win I’m going to take a punt on a name. Not looking at stable, jockey, form, anything, just the name. After watching Olympic Glory win yesterday, let’s go Olympic Jule 33/1. Bound to be popular on track.

Goodwood 4.55 – All week I’ve been waiting to back Shamaal Nibras 5/1. However looking at the card not so sure it’s that clear cut anymore. Amazing Storm 14/1 is 9lb better off with SN now after being beat by 1 length, but can’t argue the SN has not improved after run behind Trade Commissioner and ahead of Vainglory and Uppercut who won at 20/1 couple days ago! So this absolutely has to be the formline to follow? The Chil The Kite formline is not bad though which would put Arnold Lane and Jake’s Destiny in contention, and there’s also the Riot Of Colour form line represented by Stirring Ballad who has won me a nice race last week. Feck. I’m sticking with Shamaal Nibras and Amazing Storm as best formline. In fact going to reverse forecast.

Galway 1.50 – Weld = Force of Habit 9/2 (very aptly named. I missed a Weld horse yesterday and it bloody won!)

Galway 3.00 – Weld = Font of Wisdom 5/2

Galway 3.35 – Weld = Yellow Rosebud 5/4

Galway 4.50 – No Weld horse, but Segal has tipped Drive Time 8/1. I’ve bought into Blazing Tempo 10/1 as called out by Rob ‘Gamblor’ Kanfer. Won at the festival last year and does look a good price. Problem is it’s a big race, lots returning from breaks and so no season form lines. Now that I’ve been sucked into this race I’ll also back Moon Dice 25/1 or Fosters Cross 25/1. Not sure which but both weighted like could end up like last year’s 1 and 2. Problem is ground. Not sure former likes it. Right off to work…
